Google’s mega campus development in downtown San Jose dubbed “Downtown West” just got the unanimous approval from the City of San Jose’s Planning Commission on Wednesday night to move forward.

What does this mean?

  • Although Google’s proposed plan is a month away from getting the official green light by the San Jose City Council next month, this “(Planning) Commission’s strong support bodes well for one of the biggest development projects in Silicon Valley history.”

“Under the plan, which was also approved by the commission Wednesday night, the remaining portions of the Diridon Station area outside of Google’s project footprint could experience a wide range of new development over the next two decades in the form of up to 6.4 million square feet of office space, 7,000 housing units and 536,000 square feet of retail. - The Mercury News

  • Silicon Valley Business Journal quoted Planning Commission Chair Mariel Caballero saying “...this is a step in the right direction for the longevity of our city, the vibrancy and the sustainability.”

At buildout this will be Google’s largest campus. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be in good company as Urban Catalyst’s projects are just yards away from this planned mega campus in downtown San Jose.
